[Lovely Things] Bridgerton, atomic habits, and a bear 🥰
Hello roaring 20’s 🦁
2021 is here, and it’s proving to be a bit wild too. As I ease back into my workflow this month, I’m experimenting with how I can connect and add value in ways that feel good for me to create.
So I’m going to share love notes with you called: “Lovely Things”
I’ll share a list of things that bring me joy throughout the week.
It could include a song I’m loving, something I just purchased, ways I’m nourishing myself, links to read/watch/listen that might spark your creativity, grow your business, or inspire your life. And of course, I’ll link to Lead with Love podcast episodes when I have new ones to share.
If you love it, open up, if it doesn’t bring you joy, clear the mental + digital clutter and unsubscribe at any time.
Here is your first list of “Lovely Things.” Happy exploring!
Here is your list of Lovely Things ♥
Watch 📺
Confession: I watched all 8 episodes of Bridgerton on Netflix in 8 hours from 9pm – 6am on Friday night. The Duke made me do it! 😳 It’s like one long romance movie. #Shondaland had me hooked.
listen 🎧
A few songs I Shazam’ed while watching Bridgerton: The End by JPOLND, Love Yourself by Sufjan Stevens, thank u, next by Vitamin String Quartet.
read 📖
I’m currently reading the memoir: How We Fight For Our Lives by Saeed Jones; audible non-fiction: Atomic Habits by James Clear; I gifted this book: Strength to Love by Martin Luther King Jr.
Buy 🛍
I recently purchased this bamboo wood tea box to hold the variety of teas I have at home (vanilla chai, chamomile lavender are my faves right now). I'm also obsessed with this limited-edition Mrs. Meyers apple cider scent for cleaning.
Connect 👯
I filled my connection cup with: my weekly Aloha Friday sQuad call with Jennifer Kem and Nikki Elledge Brown (I walked outside for this call on a cold + foggy day); co-worked on Zoom with my friend Amy Groome; hiked in the redwoods with Elizabeth DiAlto (only a 25-minute drive from my home) 🌲
Learn 🤓
I’m currently taking a scene and exposition writing class with New York Times Bestselling memoirist, Jennifer Lauck on Thursday evenings. I took her Bones of Storytelling class a few months ago and loved it.
Inspire ✨
I love to see a creative black woman shine. The young poet laureate, Amanda Groman, delivered a full body chills poem in front of the nation: “And so we lift our gazes not to what stands between us, but what stands before us.” If you missed her performance, you can watch the inauguration poem here.
Smile 😊
Something that made me smile was watching my daughter read The Confidence Code for Girls at my office (she finished it in one sitting!). I gave her a break from homeschool to have a mental health day. #takeyourdaughtertoworkday
Nourish 🧘🏽♀️
How I’m taking care of myself: I attended my best friend Michelle Long’s Sunday Service for Women a monthly donation-based gathering for meditation, journaling, and connection. Next one's happening Feb. 14.
Travel 🧳
My husband, daughter and I stayed in a cozy cottage in Lake Tahoe for several nights to reflect on 2020 and dream + plan for 2021. Two requirements: fireplace and a hot tub. It snowed, and we saw a bear! “Hey bear!” (for those who have seen the survival show Alone you know what this means). 🐻
Wins ✨
Celebrating a few of my clients: Meri Cherry runs a brick and mortar business in L.A. and sold out her online process-based art classes with a waitlist; Meggan Hill relaunched her food blog site, Culinary Hill, that she’s been running since 2011; Martha Shaughnessy, founder of The Key PR firm, added a new company agreement: We agree to break down systems of oppression.
If this list of “Lovely Things” brought you joy, feel free to share with a friend. Now go unplug, dance, and build something meaningful.
