communicating boundaries + balancing big energy

I visited my family on Kauai. It was so nourishing to spend time in the ocean, play board games, and share meals together.

And I’m pretty sure the north shore wins the reward for most gorgeous mini golf course.

My little brother Max’s spirit is so strong there, especially at Hanalei Bay where he first learned to surf. I miss his physical presence but feel him so deeply in nature. The dragonflies, sunrises, moon, and the stars.

I squeezed in a few hours each day to work on my book while I was there. I lived the chapter I was working on, “Refill Your Well.” In between writing sessions, I'd take naps, play at the beach, and spend time with my family. Then I had enough stamina to keep writing.

In this chapter, I also talk about communicating your boundaries and needs as an essential part of self-care and growing your business.

For example, before arriving in Kauai, I gave my family a heads up that I would be working for a few hours each day on my book. Then once I arrived, I reminded them again. Before I started my writing sprint for the day, I’d let them know what hours I would be writing, so they wouldn't interrupt me.

Even with communicating my boundary and setting clear expectations several times, I still felt some guilt, but I knew I’d feel worse if I swayed from my book timeline.

It was very enticing to not work on my book and just play with my family, but I knew I’d be much happier sticking to the boundary I communicated to my family. Knowing I could play with them a few hours later.

I talk more about boundaries, guilt, and getting big projects done in my latest episode on the podcast this week, too.

Balancing Your Big Energy into Focused Action

Do you have that rock solid someone who supports you through hard emotional decisions or when you’re putting big meaningful work out into the world? In this episode of the Lead with Love podcast, you’ll learn one of my secret weapons for birthing big ideas without exhaustion, overwhelm or burnout.

In this conversation, I get cozy with my dear friend and personal life coach of over 5 years Rebecca McLoughlin.

Rebecca helps ambitious women hone and balance their “big energy” into focused action and feminine flow. As a Certified Life Coach with a Master’s in Counseling Psychology, Rebecca is able to support clients in doing the deep inner work needed to gain insight and free themselves from patterns of procrastination, self sabotage and burn out.

Rebecca’s been in my corner both personally and professionally for over 5 years. She was a big catalyst of support in 2016 when I was exiting my company Simple Green Smoothies. She’s helped me move forward with numerous big ideas, including my published book coming out in 2022.

In this episode, we talk about the behind the scenes process of how Rebecca has supported me in bringing my book forward as I bring it to the finish line.

“Big energy women need a unique flow in their life and in their businesses.”
