#bts of my book writing process 📕✹

Can you believe it?

Less than 4 weeks until She Builds is out! Have you pre-ordered your copy yet?

She Builds will officially be available on November 15, 2022, at your favorite booksellers. Head over to shebuilds.com to claim your bonuses now.

Today, I’m excited to share a new conversation on the Lead with Love podcast with my dear friend and book coach Azul Terronez. One big takeaway from this episode

Dreams take time.

Here’s a timeline of my book-writing journey:

» 2014:

  • Met my literary agent (who I wouldn’t reach out to for 4 years)

» 2018:

  • I had a conversation with my literary agent in the summer saying I was ready to write a business book

» 2019:

  • Worked on my book proposal
  • Paused halfway through the year when my father, dog, and brother passed away in a span of 6 months to give myself space to grieve

» 2020:

  • Worked on book proposal again in spring 2020
  • Finished proposal in November 2020
  • Got a book deal with Harper Business in December 2020

» 2021:

  • Wrote several revisions of the manuscript (including developmental editing)

» 2022:

  • Edited the manuscript (line editing, copyediting, first/second/third pass)
  • Recorded audiobook in August

Now She Builds is complete and will soon be in your hands in a few weeks!

Remember
don’t put a timeline on your dreams; put a timeline on your actions. Be compassionate with yourself because life happens and you'll need to ask for more time and extend dates to honor your whole life. Dreams take time to ripen.

Trust you’re right where you need to be. Whatever you’re building right now will be worth the wait.

Writing She Builds: From Concept to Completion

In the season 5 opener of the Lead with Love Podcast, Azul and I share another behind-the-scenes conversation on my book-writing process.

Azul is the host of the top writing podcast Authors Who Leadℱ and helps entrepreneurs and leaders write and publish books that people love. His coaching program, Authors Who Lead, is built around the idea that creating books is about building the conversation that you want to own. Azul is a fascinating storyteller, phenomenal friend, and coach with a teacher's heart. He has his own TEDx talk “What Makes a Good Teacher Great” which has been viewed over 3 million times.

In this episode, we explore the evolution of how I wrote my newest book, She Builds: The Anti-Hustle Guide to Grow Your Business and Nourish Your Life.

If you've ever wanted to peek behind the curtains of what it's like to publish a book from concept to completion (finding your idea to actually getting it out into the world), then you will love today's conversation.

What you'll hear (and don't want to miss!):

» The biggest lessons I learned from writing my new book and how this process has shifted the way that I see myself

» One of the biggest challenges I faced when writing my latest book, She Builds

» Thoughts on pushing back on editing changes from a publisher, and why it’s okay to stand up for yourself and your message
