This week’s episode is a flash back to when I get really REAL about my entrepreneurial journey – my first keynote at Chris Guillebeau’s World Domination Summit – where I speak in front of 3,000 people.

I kick off my keynote with the very personal poem above. It’s my truth and my story as a married female business owner of color with a young daughter, big dreams and a whole lot of ambition. I share the challenges and the lessons I learned along the way.

Confession…I’ve never listened to this talk. Crazy right? I started listening a few years ago, but then I stopped because, “Ugh! Why does my voice sound like that? Why am I moving around the stage like that? I just can’t listen to this for another minute!” Crazy how our inner critic tries to pull us down from sharing and helping other people.

But when I was on that stage, I felt in flow. I took the attention off of… what I was wearing… how nervous my belly felt… I chose to take the attention off of myself. It was time to share my story and not make it about me, but make it about service – no matter how loud that inner voice was.

The feedback I’ve gotten about this talk over the years has been incredible. It’s opened so many doors for me and changed so many lives. Many people have said how inspiring it was and that it ignited something in them to bet on themselves and go after their dreams. For me, there’s no greater compliment and I hope it does the same for you.
