When you’re going, going, going, but you just can’t “push” anymore…

I don’t know what’s in the air, but there’s a part of me that just doesn’t want to do anything… besides watch movies with my family and sit on the beach. #summertime

For the past few days, I’ve been thinking about this 20 second video clip my good friend Nikki Elledge Brown sent to me. And it pretty sums up how I feel. Hahaha.

You know when there’s work to be done, places to go, and people waiting on you… and all you want to do is hide under a cover (or a beach blanket)?

One thing that really helps me is to the name the resistance.

I lean on my community of friends; I reach out to my life coach, I book a call with my business mentor, and I let them know I’m stuck. It’s the same thing I do for my own clients: let them name the resistance and help them get unstuck.

What I realized is I had a very big “show up” week last week: leading a VIP Business Strategy Session with one of my clients on Wednesday and speaking at a women’s co-working space about How to Build Your Tribe with Love on Thursday in addition to my regular work.

I just put out a lot of energy, and I knew I needed to rest and recharge even if there was more work to be done.

I decided to cancel all my Friday “work plans” (that I made for myself) and booked a 90-minute massage instead.

Over the weekend I didn’t let myself think about any work or touch my laptop. I watched Mister Rogers with my family, had a Pressed Juicery Freeze three nights in a row (which is a super healthy “frozen yogurt” I'm addicted to), and then laid in the sun at the beach all day on Sunday.

When you’re going, going, going, but you just can’t “push” anymore…

…it’s time to slow down, pause and rest. Update your calendar and adjust your schedule before you burn yourself out. Ask for support. Clear out space and block out time for YOU.

Have you ever been there? You keep pushing but the energy and inspiration just isn’t there? Projects don't work out the way you planned? If you can relate to any of this, this week’s episode of the Lead with Love podcast is for you. I get cozy with Srinivas Rao, the author of a Wall Street Journal bestseller book, The Art of Being Unmistakable.

Srinivas Rao is the host and founder of the Unmistakable Creative podcast, where he’s interviewed more than 700 people ranging from bank robbers to billionaires. Guests have included Tim Ferriss, Elle Luna, Seth Godin and many more.

Here are some things we talk about:

  • How a rough period in Srini’s life forced him to question everything and be more vulnerable which led to the creation of his first book
  • What role our environment plays on our behavior and mindset, and 3 steps to take now if you’re in a dark place in your life
  • How to create things that you are proud to put your signature on and find joy in the process
  • We also explore his newest book, An Audience of One which covers innovation, creativity, and productivity and we discuss what it really means to create for an “audience of one” and the ultimate paradox about it
